About.

Johnny Bones is the full-time saxophonist multi-woodwind player for The California Honeydrops. He resides with his girlfriend and her two wonderful kids in Davis, California. When not on tour with the 'drops, he is available with his group "Johnny Bones and the Palace of Jazz" for club dates as well as private events.

The group draws from a variety of musical backgrounds that have influenced Johnny over the years. Growing up in Berkeley, California there was a plethora jazz, reggea, funk, ska, and blues. All of these elements are explored in the music of the Palace of Jazz.

But the primary element this group likes to play with is swing music and jump blues. In his 20's Johnny got his ears on the music of Duke Ellington's Cotton Club Orchestra and Jelly Roll Morton's band from New Orleans. The wah-wah's trumpets, growling saxophones, and groovy rhythms really got a hold of him. As well as the bouncy stride-like piano style.

This group was formed to explore those older songs and styles and write new material influenced by that sound. Gritty music with a fun spirit and lively energy. Listen to the CD to get a better of idea of what I mean.
